Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, regardless of ability or disability. This statement outlines our ongoing measures to maintain an inclusive digital environment so that pupils, parents, staff and visitors can seamlessly access information.

This statement applies strictly to the school website: https://hatfieldpeverel.essex.sch.uk. The technical platform is maintained by our website provider, Thinksay Creative Communications Limited.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Image Descriptions: Four interactive or linked images on the homepage currently lack alternative text (alt tags) definitions. We aim to have these updated for screen reader accessibility by December 2026.
  • Contrast Levels: There are eight identified instances of foreground text elements with low colour contrast against their backgrounds. We are actively adjusting these styling variables for optimal readability by December 2026.
  • Heading Structure: Two instances of skipped heading levels exist in the site hierarchy. We are correcting these to ensure smoother semantic navigation for assistive technologies by December 2026.
  • Non-HTML Documents (PDFs & Newsletters): Several of our current statutory policies, school documents and active weekly newsletters are published in PDF format rather than native web pages. This means they are not fully optimised for screen readers or responsive mobile viewing. We are working to ensure all new essential documents are created accessibly, and we plan to transition key informational documents to native web pages (HTML) by September 2027.

Usability and Performance Notes

  • Site Search Constraints: The global search function (magnifying glass icon) may occasionally return incomplete results or struggle with specific complex search terms. While this is not a technical WCAG non-compliance, we are actively reviewing the site’s search indexing with our provider to improve user experience.

Core Accessibility Features

Our site is designed to integrate with native browser tools and assistive technologies, supporting:

  • Responsive Zoom: Users can scale text size up to 300% and adjust contrast levels via standard browser functions.
  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements can be fully navigated without the use of a mouse.
  • Semantic Layout: Pages use a clear heading hierarchy to allow assistive screen readers to skim content logically.
  • Browser Translation: All core text supports standard automated browser translation extensions.
