Music at Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School

At Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School, we believe that Music plays an integral part in helping our children to feel part of a community and a sense of belonging. We encourage all children to use music as a unique form of expression that empowers them to communicate freely and creatively both in and out of the classroom. Through fun and engaging lessons and performances children are given every opportunity to develop their love and enjoyment for music, acknowledging that every child is a musician.

Please refer to the Music progression map below to find out how we teach Music in our school and the impact.

My name is Mrs Button and I am the subject lead for Music.  From a young age I have loved listening to and singing along to musicals, something that sparked my enjoyment of music and performing.  This passion has stayed with me, and I can often be found around the school singing to myself or making up silly songs to match the children’s names or days of the week.  Recently, I challenged myself to learn to play the piano, and I have discovered both how tricky and how rewarding learning an instrument can be.  I really enjoy leading a subject that encourages creativity, expression and confidence, and I love seeing children engage with and enjoy making music.  I am passionate about developing children’s love of music and their musical skills through our engaging curriculum and extracurricular opportunities.
