Science at Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School
Our fantastic Science Week fun was kick started with an ‘Awe and Wonder’ assembly which amazed the children and got them excited for a week of Science exploration.
The children were fortunate to have a wonderful science workshop. They were amazed by all the science they saw and learnt lots of interesting things and exciting new vocabulary.
Investigations are at the forefront of our Science curriculum allowing children to learn through a practical hands on approach. In Reception the children have been investigating the quickest way to melt the ice to rescue the people trapped inside.
At Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School, we aim to inspire children to be inquisitive learners by providing opportunities for open ended learning exploration. We believe that scientific investigations are an integral part for children to develop a healthy curiosity and interest in the sciences enabling them to be equipped for life to ask and answer specific questions about their surroundings. Children are supported to develop their working scientifically skills to enable them to apply knowledge when using equipment, conducting experiments and investigations, building arguments, explaining concepts confidently using scientific terminology and most importantly, to continue to develop an enquiring mind about the world in which we live in.

My name is Mrs Button and I am the subject lead for Science. From a young age I have loved exploring the outdoors and discovering how the world works, something that began when I was a Scout enjoying nature and learning through adventure. This passion has stayed with me, and I now enjoy spending time in my garden growing my own fruit and vegetables and observing how things grow and change. I really enjoy leading a subject that encourages curiosity, questioning and hands-on learning, and I love seeing children’s excitement when they investigate and discover something new. We are lucky to have wonderful resources and garden spaces that allow children to explore science in real-life contexts. I am passionate about helping children develop their scientific knowledge and enquiry skills, while nurturing a lifelong love of learning about the world around them.
