ERIC
Our Values
We have a school mascot called ERIC who helps and encourages the children to think about our four core values. These values are:
• Effort
• Respect
• Independence
• Communication
These four values provide our children with key life skills for the future. These are taught throughout the whole school and are seamlessly woven into our curriculum, beginning from the earliest stages of education in Nursery. Children are awarded ERIC tokens as a reward for demonstrating these key life skills. Upon entering Reception year, each child is allocated a coloured t-shirt, assigning them to one of four teams: red, green, purple, or orange. The team that accumulates the most ERIC tokens is celebrated during our weekly ‘Celebration Assembly.’ We celebrate their achievements and showcase the importance of teamwork and perseverance.
Alongside ERIC tokens awarded during lesson time, our Midday Team also give out Lunchtime ERIC tokens. Families are invited to share out‑of‑school achievements by sending in a ‘Home ERIC’ — for example a football trophy, swimming certificate or acts of helpfulness at home (supporting a younger sibling, being especially kind, etc.). These achievements are celebrated in our Celebration Assembly so the whole school can recognise and applaud them.
We have a cuddly ERIC that spends time in classrooms, a sporty ERIC who attends all sporting events our very popular ERICs that go home and share adventures with the children. Children write about ERIC’s adventures in a class diary and this is shared on his return to school every Monday! We even have an adult sized ERIC which occassionally pops up at Summer Fetes!
