Admission Arrangements

Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School is a community school run by the Local authority. Essex County Council deal with all aspects of admission to the school. The School’s Standard Number for entry into each year group is 60 pupils. There is no longer a guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admissions area. If the number of applications exceeds the standard number, places will be allocated in the following order:

• Children Looked After;

• Children with a brother or sister attending the school or the partner junior school;

• Children living in the priority admissions area;

• Remaining applications.

• Statemented children receive their school of choice.

Applications for places in the school are handled centrally by the Planning and Admissions Department of Essex County Council. All formal applications must be made on the Common Application Form which can be requested from Essex County Council or online at www.essex.gov.uk and submitted by the advertised deadlines.

TRANSFER TO JUNIORS

When your child reaches Year 2 you will need to apply for transfer to a Junior School. Transition between the Infant School and our partner Junior School is not automatic and each child will have to apply through Essex County Council School Admissions for a place in the Autumn term of Year 2. St Andrew’s Junior School runs its own admissions, being a church school, and all children being admitted to Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School will have a guaranteed place on application.

Pupils who transfer to St. Andrew’s Junior School take part in a well-planned transition programme which runs during the Summer Term of the final year in the Infant School. The partnership between our two schools helps to ensure continuity of learning.  Before leaving the Infant School, children visit the Junior School for assemblies, playtimes and special occasions as well as meeting their new teacher, to help them to gain confidence in their new environment.

Full academic records are passed to the Junior School and joint planning and consultation between the Head teachers and staff supports our common aim of providing the best educational context for children’s learning.

ADMISSION TO SCHOOL

We arrange open days in the Autumn Term for prospective parents. We warmly welcome visits to our school. Please telephone the school office for availability and dates or to make an appointment to speak with the Headteacher.

If you are fortunate to be awarded a place you will be invited to a New Intake Meeting during the summer term prior to your child’s admission the following September. As part of the school admission process, you will need to complete a school admission form which the school office staff will be pleased to help you with. The information on this form includes essential starting information and emergency contact details to ensure your child is safely cared for while with us. You are asked to complete and return the admission form BEFORE your child is able to start school. During the term before starting school, children are invited to meet their new teachers and to experience a variety of activities. Details of these induction visits will be advertised in a personal letter to you and your child nearer the time. All children joining the school in their Reception year (the year in which they become 5 years of age) will enjoy the benefits of sharing our Foundation Stage facilities. This area of the school is dedicated to the needs of younger pupils with staffing, resources and activities matched to their personal development. There is a higher adult to child ratio than in later years at the school.

The School admits all pupils FULL TIME in September. ALL Reception children attend for half days only during the first week or so of the school year, in order to help them to adjust gradually to changes in their routine. Teaching staff from the Foundation Stage classes will be available for individual family appointments during this time to enable you to get to know us and for us to get to know you really well to aid this important time for your child: appointment times will be available for booking on our Transition Morning.

N.B. In the cases of pupils leaving to join other schools or arriving from other schools at other times in the school year, we send on or request individual records and ensure that any special transition arrangements which may be needed are put into place as early as possible e.g. additional visits by pupils or staff and specific programmes or activities for pupils with additional needs.
