PE at Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School

At Hatfield Peverel Infants and Nursery School, we believe in inspiring every child through a high-quality physical education curriculum. Our children will develop confidence and competence in key movement skills, helping them to move with control, coordination, and enjoyment. They will learn to work both independently and with others, exploring a range of physical activities including games, dance, and simple competitive sports. Through fun and engaging experiences, children will build their agility, balance, and coordination, while also learning the value of staying active and healthy. We aim to nurture a lifelong love of movement and wellbeing in every child.

Please refer to the PE progression map below to find out how we teach PE in our school and the impact.

My name is Mrs Ashley and I am the Subject Lead for Physical Education. I am passionate about promoting healthy, active lifestyles and helping children discover a love of sport and physical activity. I believe that PE plays a vital role in developing not only physical skills, but also confidence, teamwork, resilience and determination.
Having studied Physical Education for four years at University, I appreciate the importance of movement, expression and performance, and I enjoy bringing energy and enthusiasm to PE lessons. I love encouraging children to challenge themselves, try new activities and celebrate their achievements, whether they are developing fundamental movement skills, participating in team sports or competing in events.
One of the most rewarding parts of leading PE is seeing children grow in confidence and realise what they are capable of achieving. There is nothing better than watching a child persevere with a skill they find challenging and then experience the pride of success. I am committed to creating opportunities for every child to enjoy being active, develop positive attitudes towards physical activity and build healthy habits that will stay with them throughout their lives.
