Sustainability and Climate Change at Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery School
In April 2022, the Department for Education released a sustainability and climate change strategy specifically for education. By September 2025, all education settings are expected to appoint a sustainability lead and develop a climate action plan.
Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery school is committed to supporting local and national initiatives which are aimed at protecting the world through direct climate action. As a school we have an important role to play in reducing our environmental footprint but also in educating our children with the knowledge and skills to understand the importance of nature, sustainability and the causes and impact of climate change.
At Hatfield Peverel Infant and Nursery school, our climate action plan will focus on five key areas:
Decarbonisation energy and travel,
Adaptation and resilience,
Waste and consumption,
Biodiversity,
Climate education/green careers,
This plan helps us take practical steps to reduce our environmental impact, promote sustainability, and prepare our children for a greener future. By embedding climate awareness into our school culture, we aim to protect the planet, support the well-being of our community, and ensure that our pupils learn the importance of caring for the world around them. Our commitment reflects both national priorities and our belief that every small action can make a big difference.
Our school’s Sustainability Lead is Mrs Fairbairn
